I'm Amy Osburn, the founder of Blue Wave Counseling and a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in trauma, PTSD, first responder mental health, anxiety, grief, burnout, and life transitions.
I believe therapy should begin with meeting you where you are—not where you think you should be. My approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded in understanding your individual experiences, strengths, and goals. Together, we work to better understand what you're experiencing, identify what may be keeping you stuck, and develop a path forward.
I use evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based interventions, tailoring treatment to your needs and goals.
I Understand the Culture Because I've Lived It
Before becoming a counselor, I spent nearly two decades in law enforcement, serving in roles that included patrol, investigations, supervision, training, and leadership. I understand the realities of high-stress careers, the pressure to stay composed, and the culture that can make asking for help feel difficult.
I'm also the spouse of a first responder, giving me another perspective on how demanding careers can affect relationships, families, and life outside of work.
These experiences are a significant part of why I founded Blue Wave Counseling. I wanted to create a place where first responders, veterans, frontline professionals, and their families can find support from someone who understands the culture—not simply from the outside, but from lived experience.
Clinical & Professional Experience
In addition to my counseling practice, my professional background includes law enforcement leadership, statewide law enforcement training, professional development, emotional intelligence coaching, and leadership development.
I am an EQ-i 2.0 certified practitioner and incorporate emotional intelligence principles into coaching and counseling when appropriate, particularly for individuals navigating leadership, career development, professional transitions, and personal growth.
This combination of clinical training, firsthand first responder experience, and leadership expertise allows me to bring a practical and informed perspective to the counseling relationship.
A Different Kind of Therapy Experience
You don't have to know exactly what you need before reaching out. You don't have to be in crisis, and you don't have to have the right words to explain what you're experiencing.
My role is to provide a confidential, supportive space where you can slow down, make sense of what you're carrying, and begin working toward meaningful change.
Whether you're processing trauma, struggling with anxiety or burnout, navigating grief or a major life transition, dealing with the effects of a high-stress career, or simply feeling like you've lost your sense of direction, there is a place to start.
I offer in-person counseling in Leawood and the Kansas City metro area, as well as telehealth counseling throughout Kansas.
If you're ready to take the first step, I'd be honored to talk with you.
